SpyCruise®:
British Traitors—Sex, Spies
and Lies
SpyCruise Lectures
The theme of our SpyCruise® to London on
the QE2 is
"British Traitors—Sex, Spies and Lies"
and we'll focus on British intelligence and spy cases.
The lectures will be given by SpyCruise
professors who are retired intelligence and counterintelligence officers
as well as intelligence authors/historians. Most lectures
are supplemented by dynamic multimedia
PowerPoint presentations.
Daily
lecture topics as we cruise to London
(NOTE: Lectures and Professors subject to change):
-
1000 Years of Real and False Traitors
-
The introduction
to the long history of the British search from the real and alleged
traitors executed in the Tower of London.
-
The Tower of
London has been the setting for many great events during its 900-year
history as a royal palace and fortress, prison and place of execution
of real and falsely accused spies.
-
The Tower of London and the Last Spy Executed
-
An
Introduction to “The Circus”: The British Security Service (MI5)
-
Women in Espionage
-
Through the
American Revolutionary War, the US Civil War, World War I and World
War II, the Cold War and the post-Cold War, women have played an
important role in intelligence and espionage. Both British and
American women have been spies, female traitors, heroines and
espionage enablers.
-
An introduction
to who these women were, what they did and who they betrayed.
-
An
Introduction to the Cambridge Five: Spies Who Bent History
-
An timeline of
when, where and how each of the Cambridge spies became Soviet agents.
-
There is
probably no more famous and influential spy ring in history than the
Philby-Maclean-Burgess-Blunt-Cairncross group who were ideologically
recruited at a young age by the KGB to penetrate the highest levels of
British government. We’ll take an in-depth look at these spies and
their impact on history, plus what VENONA revealed about their
activities.
-
The First Three Cambridge Spies: Philby-Maclean-Burgess
-
The Fourth And Fifth Men: Anthony Blunt and John Cairncross
-
Insight into the
least known of the Cambridge spies from a man who has interviewed both
at length.
-
The role of John
Cairncross in compromising the most important code breaking centre
during World War II: the famous Bletchley Park.
-
Spies in the Commonwealth: The Royal Canadian Mounted Police and British
View and Insight into Penetration Agents, Molehunts and Double Agentry
-
The LONG KNIFE
Penetration and GIDEON, a KGB Defector
-
The GRIDIRON Molehunt and its
Repercussions
-
The TANGO Penetration and its Impact
on the RCMP and Allied Services
-
OBSTACLE COURSE and
GOLD MINE: KGB and RCMP Double Agentry
-
George
Blake: The British Ames
-
The last MI6
officer arrested for espionage, 42 years ago
-
The Berlin Tunnel,
which eavesdropped on the Soviets, was one of the great technical
achievements of Britain and America. Unfortunately British
intelligence officer George Blake gave up the plans for it to the
Russians before the tunnel was even built.
-
The
Mitrokhin Archive: The Story Behind the Man and his Defection
-
The most amazing
and stunning counterintelligence source was an unknown KGB archivist
who spent years in his office copying files and hiding them at his
house. When the Cold War ended, he offered his notes to the Americans
twice but was turned down—they weren’t interested in old cases.
-
The British
gladly took him and since then, no one who spied for the KGB in the
1960s, 70s and 80s can ever rest safely. British intelligence
historian Christopher Andrew co-wrote, with the archivist Vasili
Mitrokhin, the book on the files that could be revealed. He tells us
this amazing story.
The STAKE KNIFE
Case: A Breaking Story of Espionage and Betrayal
-
The penetration of
the Provisional IRA is a fascinating textbook example of how a
terrorist organization can be penetrated and destroyed.
-
Northern Ireland’s Republican
movement has reacted with shock and anger to reports that a senior IRA
figure and a trusted friend of its president, Gerry Adams, was in fact
a British intelligence mole who was responsible for some 40 deaths of
IRA activists.
-
“The truth as it is known to date”
Each night, you'll have the opportunity to
talk to our SpyCruise®
professors in an informal setting in lounges throughout the ship after dinner.
You'll be able to ask them more about their lectures and experiences in
the shadowy worlds of espionage.
