Russian Entry Documentation Forms: (All you ever wanted to know – and more!)
A new system was introduced on February 01, 2003.
The Migration Card (given to you by the Airline or picked up at the airport in Moscow) consists of A (upper) and B (lower) parts.
You fill in both parts and show it to the passport control (frontier) officer when clearing your entry into Russia. The upper part is detached by the officer and the lower part, with stamp for authentication, is returned to you for retention by you until your departure from Russia.
Both parts contain the same items to be filled in, namely, Surname, Given name, Date of Birth, Sex, Passport No. Nationality, Purpose of visit (Fill in Tourist), Address in Russia (give hotel address or address of apartment if you are staying there and not the hotel), Length/term of stay (from ______ until ______ ) and signature.
The rear side of this card carries the following remarks.
ATTENTION
1. Foreign nationals are requested to fill in both parts of the Migration Card (A and B) and hand it over the Border Control Officer along with their passport and other certificates and Travel documents.
2. Please, fill in the Card clearly in Russian or English language in block letters.
3. Please, use mark < x > to show your sex and purpose of the visit in the correspondent frames.
4. Keep in mind that according to the law in force you should Register yourself in the local office of the Ministry of the Interior within 3 days after your arrival to the point of destination or within 1 day in case of stay at the hotel or other similar organization rendering hotel services (this rule is applied for all foreign nationals except those who are the subject of registration by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
5. Please, keep your B card along with your passport until going through the departure passport control procedure.
Under the remarks there is a blank space with the instruction: "Registration marks on places of temporary stay".
The hotel staff will stamp or notate the documentation when you register at the hotel – or staple a small piece of paper with hotel registration stamp on it to your passport. They will require you to leave your Passport at the Front Desk for a couple hours when you register. Do NOT be concerned. This is SOP. You can and should pick it up from them a few hours later and before you go out from the hotel. Carry your passport with you at all times, along with the part/copy of the Visa Form given to you to retain during your stay on entry, plus the entry documentation card/slip.
